Get an Early Start on Youthfulness
Cosmetic procedures can help you age gracefully
Aging gracefully is an art whether achieved through attitude or appearance.
Today’s technology makes it possible for many more people to look younger and fit,” said Suzanne Kerley, M.D., a plastic surgeon at the Santa Cruz Medical Clinic.
“People take better care of themselves in general and are seeking solutions at a younger age. Women don’t want to wait until they look like their mothers, they want to delay the aging process by starting earlier.” Cosmetic procedures are the most frequently performed elective surgery in the United States. Although the majority of clients are women, a growing number of men are taking advantage of the specialty’s age and gravity defying benefits.
The range of options for all ages is impressive. Rejuvenation of the face and neck is achieved through facelifts, forehead and brow lifts, eyelid lifts, nose reshaping, neck lifts, chin augmentation and ear pinning. “Men may not want a facelift, but can turn back the clock with a neck lift,” Dr. Kerley noted.
Interestingly, people with migraines may benefit from a forehead lift. Migraine sufferers may also get relief from forehead BOTOX injections.
Non-surgical choices to reduce wrinkles, broken blood vessels and age spots include laser treatments, chemical peels and collagen, fat and BOTOX injections. Skin care is essential to maintain a healthy appearance.
Body contouring procedures are good choices for people who want to redefine their overall appearance by removing “love handles” and loose, sagging skin. A “tummy tuck,” thigh and arm lifts and liposuction can help them achieve that look.”
“An abdominoplasty (the tummy tuck) removes excess skin and fat and tightens the abdominal wall. It can also be combined with a hysterectomy or bladder surgery. Patients with loose skin following childbirth are usually excellent candidates for an abdominoplasty,” Dr. Kerley noted.
Breast contours can be enhanced through breast lifts, augmentation (possible for women over age 18) or reduction. There are many options for breast reconstruction following cancer surgery. “By working with general surgeons, we can start the reconstruction at the time of the cancer surgery,” Dr. Kerley said.
“Women often prefer to be seen by a female physician, and men and women want their consultations to be private and confidential. I give these to my clients along with very personalized attention,” she emphasized. “I spend a lot of time with each person to help them get exactly what they want out of this experience.”
Dr. Kerley performs all types of plastic and reconstructive surgery in addition to cosmetic procedures. Her office is located across the street from Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center. Within the next year, her office will be relocated nearby. An esthetician will be available and there will be a private waiting room for cosmetic patients.
